TERM10B is a programmable multi-purpose system that can be used as:

  • autonomous control system designed to control machines and devices including display and control panels
  • stand-alone display and control panel to be used with another SofCon control system.
  • visualisation panel for third-party PLC systems, such as TECO, Allen Bradley, SAIA, FESTO. For some communication protocols, TERM10B can operate the communication channel as MASTER (issuing commands to the control system and receiving responses), or SLAVE (entirely subordinate to the control system).

TERM10B is based on the KITV40 (KIT386EX) processor unit that is extended by the TERM10 board and is designed to connect the display and the keyboard, and it also includes digital inputs and outputs.

For display, the terminal uses the 5,5" LCD graphic display using the 240 x 128 point resolution, illuminated with a vacuum tube. You have 4 grades to specify the brightness. The contrast is temperature-compensated and you can specify it using 16 grades. The control system uses a membrane keyboard. Apart from alphanumeric and function keys it contains 6 LED diode signalling fields with user-defined labels. TERM10B is also equipped with audio control signalling.

In addition, TERM10B includes 8 galvanic-separated digital outputs (optrons) and 8 galvanic-separated digital inputs. You can use these inputs and outputs to connect the control system to the real world.

TERM10B is controlled by the KITV40 (KIT386EX) industrial control unit. It includes one (in case of KITV40) or two (in case of KIT386EX) RS232 serial communication lines. In addition, each processor board contains three 8-bit digital ports at the TTL level that can be used to transfer additional signals from the process to the control system. These signals, however, must be galvanic-separated by extension modules.

You can use TERM10B on its own, or you can extend it with any IO modules or P modules included in the SofCon kit to create a control system that includes the appropriate number of additional digital or analogue inputs or outputs, or a control system extended by additional types of communication channels. Your choice of the top cover depends on the total number of extension boards. Versions to accommodate maximum 1, 4, or 8 extension boards are manufactured. The actual maximum number of extension boards is determined by their particular types.

Programming

To program SofCon control systems, you can use the two following platforms.

The first platform is Borland Pascal Development Environment / ReTOS o.s.This environment allows you to fully utilize all SW and HW features and to program all types of control tasks that require very fast responses. To achieve this, write the application directly in the Borland Pascal programming language and use a large number of the SofCon libraries. This platform requires professional programming skills

The other platform is KIT-Builder Development environment. This environment provides easy programming of simple control tasks that do not require very fast responses. You write your application in the KIT-Basic language that is partly compiled and partly interpreted while the program is running. This platform does not require professional programming skills. You can use the graphic support to design terminal screens.

Conclusion

TERM10B is a multi-purpose product manufactured by SofCon Ltd. that has become very popular with all the users who have decided to purchase it.
